We will be discussing today the history that was made last night with the election of our new President-Elect. We understand that some of our country is excited about the results, while others are upset. We will be discussing the importance of understanding and respecting differing views, showing tolerance and acceptance of change, and having optimism in the face of upset. The students will be watching today's CNN Student News and we will stop and pause to share ideas, opinions, and ask questions. www.cnn.com/studentnews We have great and super intuitive kiddos, I hope to continue the teachings that we should support each other as Americans, respect differing opinions and beliefs, and tolerance. Science The rest of the week will be dedicated to a pendulum lab. Through this process we will be making connections to the steps needed to ensure success of all experiments (including our science fair projects). November 3 Update
Science Fair Project Packets are going home today! Every student is required to complete the science fair project packet, but not every student is required to participate in the Science Fair. What that means.....every student must go through the steps at home to create a question/problem, come up with a hypothesis, test their hypothesis, and formulate a conclusion, with everything that that entails. In order to participate in the science fair, students MUST create a tri-fold board to present their project. More information will be going home about specifics. Feel free to Pinterest, use Teacher's Pay Teachers.com, Google to help think of ideas. mjusdella.ss4.sharpschool.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_142253/File/200%20Science%20Fair%20Ideas.pdf The first two parts (Question/Problem and Hypothesis) are to be filled out, checked by the family member, and sent back to school to be checked by me. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. -Mrs. Ceto October 31st to November 4th
Science- We will continue to grow our understanding that Earth consists of useful resources and its surface is constantly changing. These changes will be observed and identified as the slow changes to Earth's surface caused by weathering, erosion, and deposition. Science vocabulary will be enhanced and emphasized in the classroom. It is a HUGE key to advanced success in understanding science in general, but also it will benefit understanding for 5th grade and STAAR. We will be having vocabulary quizzes periodically. Below is a link to this unit's vocabulary. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wXwh244AtmOlnMr79Omx5LAvYh7hJmvFv7Rv3oTk3-o/edit?usp=sharing Social Studies- We will study the importance of Spanish missions in Texas history and their role in the growing complications between the Spanish and the Mexicans. ****More information will be coming about 4th grade Social Studies teachers going to the Alamo! We will be encouraging families to meet us in San Antonio to explore the Alamo! More information to come this week!**** October 24-28th
The Guinea Pigs Have Arrived! Students have asked about bringing veggies for the guinea pigs. That sounds like a great idea to me! I have created a sign up genius for families to sign up for a day to send our furry friends some veggies. Students who bring veggies will be able to feed the girls their veggies. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4fada923a2f85-ruby Science- This week in science we will be beginning our unit on weathering and erosion! October 20th Quick Update
The temperatures are about to drop (finally!)! From what I hear through the rumors, in the portables we are either freezing or a sauna when the heat is turned on. Personally with so many bodies in such a small space I’m going to opt for as little heat as necessary, so be sure to have your student come with a light sweater to wear while inside. Helping hands Since I wasn’t here yet at the meet the teacher events I have set up a sort of un-traditional “helping hands wall”. Below you will find the link to a Sign Up Genius donation page for our class. Unfortunately being so late to the game in setting up my room I am without any sort of bookshelves in the classroom. I’m hoping that someone has an old bookshelf they were planning on getting rid of anyway. It can be dinged, scratched, etc. (I can practice my handy-woman skills if need be.) but I would love to have somewhere to have books available to the students to read when we have down time; as well as it is my hope to start accumulating a classroom library of nonfictional resources to use in our units. www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4fada923a2f85-mrs October 17th - October 21st
Let me begin by first apologizing for the late update! Hi there! Mrs. Ceto here! As of Friday of last week I have taken over for Mrs. Aishman teaching Science and Social Studies. This week in Social Studies we are extending our learning of Native Americans and Early Explorers by working on a culminating research project! We will first study 7 different Native American tribes that called the Texas region home. Then we will move on to studying the European Explorers! Finally, the students will think about if they would have rather been a Native American or an European Explorer and debate with classmate the pros and cons to each side! I cannot wait to hear about their perspectives. This week in Science we will be reviewing the material covered in the last unit; food webs, conductors and insulators, circuits, and electromagnets! -Mrs. Ceto October 10th - October 14th
First off, Monday is a student holiday! Second in Science we are going to look at interactions in food webs, such as if we take the dragonfly out of the food web to the left who is affected and how are they affected. Third, we are going to simulate a European Explorers journey to the new world! October 3rd- October 7th
This week we are taking time to think about Native Americans in Texas. Together we shall write a drama that shows the day in the life of a native american. In science more work with Conductors and Insulators is on the Agenda! September 19- September 23
We begin to look at how energy causes changes in matter, I am still planning on making the circuits in class, we did get our electromagnets done last week. This week we will do a partner writing exercise in Social Studies where we discuss a question then record the answers we come up with. September 12- September 16
WE have started looking at the Native Americans indigenous to Texas this week. All three classes today began their research into an assigned tribe. We have also started posters so we can present them to the class tomorrow. We will continue to look at the types of energy Wednesday and hopefully toward the end of the week we can make electromagnets and try out circuits with different objects in class. September 6- September 9
This week we will summarize our learning of the four Regions of Texas, and also start the types of energy such as Thermal (heat), Radiant (light) etc. I hope everyone had a fun Labor Day and I also want to remind our Grandparents, that September 9, is our Grandparents day Luncheon! Make sure you sign up and return the form before Thursday. In honor of the late, great Gene Wilder, one of my favorite quotes from Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator:
"Anyone can ask questions. It's the answers that count." August 29-September 2
Social Studies: This week we are looking at regions of Texas Science: Types of Energy August23-26th
We are starting with some getting to know you activities and getting set up for a year of learning! |
